The evolution of John Stewart is great. Start off with an angry black man and move him into a really complex character. Death of his wife, chosen to run the Mosaic and basically get all these cultures to exist with each other, blames himself for the destruction of Xanshi, fall in love with one of his greatest enemies only to have his heart ripped out when she reveals she was basically mind controlled, leader of the Darkstars, get paralyzed, destroy Mogo, rebuild and lead the Green Lantern Corps…
