In this stylish animated film, Batman battles a dangerous new foe who is trying to frame the Dark Knight for the murder of a crime lord–and who is mysteriously linked to Bruce Wayne’s former girlfriend.

My favorite (and arguably the best) Batman movie ever. Seeing the parallels between young Batman/Bruce and his modern self really helps create a complete picture of his character. Add in stunning animation and top notch voice acting from Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, Dana Delaney and the rest and you have a movie that works on every level and appeals to all ages.
I am so beyond happy that this film was added to the service. It is my absolute favorite and has been since I first saw it when I was 8! The character development, the voice acting, the absolutely stunning animation and overall design have definitely helped establish Mask of the Phantasm as a classic, but by and large the best thing this film has going for it is Shirley Walker’s breathtakingly haunting score that captures the essence of Batman and Bruce Wayne so perfectly. From the very first note of the overture I am instantly hypnotized by that Gothic choir, no matter how many times I watch this movie (and it’s a lot). I’m so pathetic for this soundtrack in fact, that I even cry when “I never even told you” plays with the end credits! The only other film the comes close to giving me that completely immersive soundtrack experience is Mystery of the Batwoman, my second favorite Batman film in the animated series lineup.
The Best Batman movie I have ever seen…It’s story is sooo engaging and The Phantasm is an amazing villain and the motivation of Andrea Beaumont is compelling and THE MOST EPIC JOKER LAUGH OF ALL TIME FROM THE GREAT MARK HAMILL
I fondly remember my daycare taking us for a field trip to see this in theaters. I don’t think they realized how dark the story would be but I remember it feeling like the greatest day of my life. #BatmanFanSinceBirth
