I’m debating on whether I should watch the movie first or read the comic. any suggestions?
I’d read the comic. Mike Mignola is such a fantastic artist; the way he uses negative space works perfectly with Batman’s style, plus he gives Bats a bit of a Hellboy treatment, making him more likeable, in my opinion.

I’d read the comic first. The movie adds some stuff, so this way you’ll be able to appreciate the differences upon your first viewing of the movie.
