Name: Princess Selina First Appearance: Comic Cavalcade #28 (1948) Creators: William Marston and H.G Peter Abilities: Talented Pogo stick professional. Holliday college level education. The grace and refinement of a princess.
Backstory: Daughter of King Ritio. Selina was the princess of Pogolana, the birthplace of the pogo stick and a land wherin every aspect of life is in some way, shape, or form, influenced by the pogo stick.
A proficient athlete in the pogo stick, Selina was sent to America to avoid becoming involved in a deadly coup, while also receiving the finest education in the world at the hands of the Holliday college.
Bringing her beloved sport of Pogo polo along with her, Selina would soon transform the world of sports by making it a beloved pass time of college students across America.
However Selina while desiring to further her education at Holliday college so that she would be a wise and just ruler when she eventually took the throne, would always worry for her father and her country with her scheming aunt vying for the throne.
I should have mentioned Grace Choi for AAPI Month, but she also is a great character to check out for Pride Month. Grace is half-Bana-Mighdall, half-Korean-American, and all bi/pansexual awesomeness. She is a member of the Outsiders, and you can learn more about her in The Other History of the DC Universe#5.
Grace also appeared in DC’s Festival of Heroes, and she showed up in today’s Vixen Webtoon episode.
Name: Gay Frollick First Appearance: Sensation Comics #27 (1944) Creators: William Marston and H.G Peter Abilities: Business managment. Dance. The ability to have fun.
Backstory: Born an overly serious and stern individual. Gay Frollick had been someone devoted to her work and studies. Refusing to put aside any time for her own enjoyment and personal well being for the sake of work ethic.
She was so in love with her work that when her employer proposed to her, Gay agreed, seeing it was a way for her to become more devoted to her work. Unaware that she was getting engaged to a mob boss who intended for her to take the fall for his crimes and divert attention away from him.
Her family dying while she was imprisoned for crimes which were pinned on her by her fiance who cut off all association with her when she was released from prison, Gay found she could not find work and thus attempted suicide because there was no reason to live.
However rescued by Wonder Woman, Gay Frollick would be introduced to the joy of having fun and living, leading to Gay learning to enjoy life and happyness so much that it led to her devoting her life to sharing that joy and delight with the world.
She would go on to found the ‘Joy Foundation’ a non profit organization which would strive to relieve people of the stress of daily life and bring delight to their hearts.
She would found ‘Joy Clinics’ across the country. Buildings were people could go to relieve their pent up frustrations free of charge where they could introduce joy into their lives. All so that others could frollick gayly like Gay herself.
Name: Sofia Constantinas First Appearance: Wonder Woman #297 (1982) Creators: Dan Mishkin and Gene Colan Abilities: Amazonian training. Gun haver. Sword haver.
Backstory: Formerly a Greek terrorist who worked for Nikos Aegeus. Sofia would be offered a second chance to try and find a new path in her life. Accepting this opportunity to reform, Sofia would be brought to Paradise Island.
Once there, Sofia would be trained in the ways of the Amazons and become wholly dedicated to helping Diana however she could, desiring to make up to Diana for all her past villainy.
However despite all of this Sofia did not trust the Amazons. She had trouble believing Paradise Island was a truly utopian society and would go out of her way to seek any imperfections in their way of life and even suspected the Amazons of plotting against Diana.
When she discovered the truth, that everything was done out of love no matter how misguided the act, Sofia finally began to realize the truth of things and wholly dedicated herself, becoming one of the Amazons and aiding them in defending the world in its time of need.
Name: Glitch First Appearance: Wonder Woman #311 (1983) Creators: Dan Mishkin and Don Heck Abilities: Engineering genius. Talented mechanic. Advanced alien technology allows him to speak any language. Same technology allows him to turn invisible and only be seen by specific people.
Backstory: Hailing from an alien species known as ‘Gremlins’ Glitch was one of the many aliens who decades in the past, had escaped their evil oppressors and crashed a spaceship in snowy Siberia.
Over the decades the Gremlins in an effort to repair the spacecraft and escape the Earth to return to the stars, would disassemble aircraft, canibalizing it for parts to rebuild their own spaceship.
Once they had finally completed this effort in the modern day of the 1980s, most of the Gremlins would leave safe for Glitch who initially make up for trouble he caused when he stole Wonder Womans invisible plane.
He would become her chief mechanic, rapidly repairing the invisible jet and maintaining it. Even installing an artificial intelligence so that it could think for itself and provide colorful commentary.
When he was not aiding Wonder Woman with his technical skills, Glitch would take advantage of being able to make himself invisible to anyone he does not allow to see him to become Steve Trevors wingman. Hanging around and helping him with his own missions and efforts. His small stature letting him just sit on Steve shoulder like a parrot.
