I mix it all up. I read 3-5 DC comics when I get home from work and 3-5 Marvel just before bed, so at most I am only reading 5 in one series. I have been reading every Marvel superhero comic since Fantastic Four came out in 1961, and with DC I wanted to read every Wonder Woman comic and since I finished that I have been just bouncing around with whatever looks interesting. Just finished up Suicide Squad and will be hitting Doom Patrol soon.

Ive noticed my Marvel reading tends to follow characters, not series. Hoppin from book to book just to see where the MAN-WOLF ends up next as an example. It’s really fun this way, specially with those bronze age marvel books that would footnote everything.

Funny you should mention Man-Wolf. I just read Marvel Premier 45-56 and he ended up in “Sword and Sorcery Beyond the Stars!”

February 2021 Updates
I didn’t read as many comics as I thought I would this month. I did finally finish Witchblade vol 1. I still have most of Vol 2 and a few miniseries that I want to read. Because of this, I didn’t read nearly as much DC as I normally do. I am hoping to read a bit more DC in March but I am also trying to get through my backlog of books on my shelves. A huge upside is that I finally finished Wonder Woman and Justice League America vol 1! I am a fan of 90s comics and while there are some highs there are plenty of lows in this book.

The highlight of the month was probably DCeased: Unkillables, a book that I should by all means hate, but is in fact one of my favorite things DC has ever published. Gail Simmone’s Birds of Prey and Matt Fraction’s Fantastic Four also rank pretty high. I read quite a few Future State books as well, but I think I’m going to do a separate review for those once I’m caught up on what I’ve got. But the condensed version is: some of it’s really good, and some of it’s the Flash.

Just started a new system that will hopefully help with my sanity while having access to soooo many comics.
Its kind of a planned out schedule for reading comics, so I can spend more time reading than time spent staring at the screen anxiously trying to figure out what to read.

JSA: 5 issues from 2006, post-One Year Later

So, weird thing with this book. Most titles that ended in 2006 stopped with OYL in April for a clean break, either being replaced with a new volume thereafter or just wrapping up entirely. But JSA actually went another couple months post-OYL, and the subsequent Justice Society of America title doesn’t start until 2007 (compare to JLA, which ended in April and is replaced by Justice League of America in September) (also note that I’m going by cover dates, but even translating to publication date, the relative timing should be approximately the same, give or take a couple weeks).
Anyway, this is, for the most part, the best this title’s been since I started it. There’s a stronger-than-usual sense of distinct personalities among the cast, they all actually contribute to the plot outside of action sequences, and even the villain is fleshed out and interesting. Like, I’ve always thought that at least parts of this book’s cast could be used to make a really good title, and Geoff Johns managed to wrangle them into a decently solid title once he didn’t have David Goyer in his way, but this is the JSA title I’ve been wishing I were reading. I think I have to check out Levitz’s original run in the ‘70s now.
Though one problem is that the ghosts should not be able to touch Jakeem for the same reasons as Courtney. Or at least, I would hope that’s an oversight and not intentional.

Hey, Dark Horse! A third company!
It’s on Marvel Unlimited, though, so I’m kinda treating it as a Marvel book in my weird rotation thing that I do (basically, usually when I finish an item on my DC reading list, I read an equivalent number of Marvel issues unless it was really long binge; so I… guess now I’ll be alternating Marvel Universe stuff and Star Wars stuff for the “off” spot?).
Anyway, I’m starting this because I’m playing Knights of the Old Republic (I’m familiar with the story already but haven’t done a playthrough of my own) and thought the context would be nice.
Anyway… Character art sucks, though some of the environments are pretty cool-looking in establishing shots and splashes and such. Writing is clunky, more in line with comics from ten years earlier than with its contemporaries. Plotwise, it’s inoffensive, and with a couple interesting ideas, but pretty boring, all things considered. This miniseries in particular feels like a backstory dump for later entries in the overall Tales of the Jedi series.
Man, everybody can do battle meditation in this thing. I mean, this is comparatively so old that it’s more weird how few people can do it in later works, I guess.
Star Wars characters often have silly names, but “Finhead Stonebone” as an actual serious villain has got to take the cake.

Ok, good news/bad news time, bad first…I just finished that new book about STAN LEE, and yep, it was a spirit-crusher. It pretty much did to Stan what HEROES IN CRISIS did to Wally, except Wally didnt deserve it and Stan was a real person, kinda. Hard to say who really had the worse go. The entire final third of the book was about Stan’s final years and it was a rough read. Yes, he wasn’t perfect, coulda, SHOULD OF, done alot more for the creators around him, was VERY “me first”, but…karma got him. What he gave was what he got, and it wasn’t good. And I KNEW this book was gonna be like this, therefore I’m a moron. SEAN HOWE’S book, all about MARVEL the company was very informative, the two books on KIRBY I’ve read by SCIOLI and MARK EVANIER, both had some downer parts, but still good reads about the King. The Stan book did me in, no more peeking behind the curtain. Gimme fiction. That said, the GOOD NEWS! For a while now, I’ve been REALLY diggin straight prose superhero books, all MARVEL characters for now, but, a JSA book just came yesterday, and its next. If you haven’t, but wanna, check a prose book out, I totally say GO FOR IT. They have an epic, cinematic feel but accept and acknowledge all the geekery, continuity we funnybook folk love, i.e. midway thru an AVENGERS/XMEN trilogy of books a gamma sentinel of the HARPY(betty banner) shows up, like, why wouldn’t she/it?If you have a HALF PRICE BOOKS, or any discount bookstore near you, check em out. And unless you really wanna rain tears over cherished childhood memories, stay the hell outta the non-fiction aisles
